What is WIE File Format?
WIE file is an export file generated by the WordPress widget importer & exporter plugin. It’s used to save and transfer widgets, sidebars and settings within a WordPress website. WIE files can also be opened in text editors like Notepad++ and checked for errors or used to restore a site after a crash.
More Information
As a WordPress site administrator, using the WIE file format is very powerful because you can manage widgets in your WordPress site using this format. A widget is a small piece of code associated with a theme that is mainly used to display content and features on your website.
When you edit a widget, all changes are stored in the WIE file. This makes it easy to make global changes quickly, as well as troubleshoot if something goes wrong. You can also use the WIE file to copy widgets from one site to another or to backup your work in case of a catastrophe.
You will need access to a text editor such as Notepad++ in order to make changes to the WIE file. It is through this program that you are able to open the file and view the code that controls the widgets. It is then possible to make any changes that are necessary, such as changing the widget size or adding new images or text, and then saving and uploading the file to your WordPress site.
